(Re)Building the Lucky Country

A review of Australia’s construction and infrastructure industry

When it comes to Australia’s pandemic response, the current economic climate, and our recovery, it’s clear we’ve been luckier than most. And with our construction, infrastructure, and engineering sectors outperforming other industries, we’re contributing significantly to rebuilding the economy and the country.

There are many complex operational and recruitment changes and challenges on the horizon for businesses of all sizes. The new COVID normal for our industry is one of long pipelines of deliverable work with high staff utilisation, but rising employment costs (with salaries up 8% on 2019) and a shortage of available talent. We’re experiencing higher recruitment demand (up 9% on the pre-pandemic high of 2019), and any dips are more attributable to state and national lockdowns, and resulting project delays, rather than a lack of confidence.

Our CGC in Focus series, and thought leadership pieces, look at the geo-demographic recruitment trends in our sectors. The aim is to give our client’s and candidate’s insights and predications, so they can make better recruitment choices/decisions. In this year’s document, we look at:

1. The national landscape

2. Regional metrics

3. Employment, underemployment, and key recruitment indicators

4. The year ahead, with stats taking us up to 2024

5. And much more...
